I Married An Angel was the eighth teaming of MacDonald and Eddy, and their final film together. Based on a successful Broadway stage play by Vaszary Jones in the 1930s, it was a fantasy story of a playboy banker who married an angel from heaven, only to discover what a problem it can become. The film flopped at the box office. The blame could be put on Louis B. Mayer who had forced them to do the property. Both stars had originally opposed the idea. Despite moments of engaging comedy and music, the film did poorly. There would be several attempts through the years to reunite MacDonald and Eddy in films but all efforts came to failure.
